Elie Saab is a Lebanese designer, in 1982 at the young age
of 18 Saab had launched his own fashion label, he was specialized in bridal couture, making wedding dresses and gowns
using expensive fabrics such as lace, detailed embroidery, pearls, crystals and
silk. His designers attracted high society women. A lot of his success came to
him after he became the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner (Halle
Berry). In May 2003 he was invited by Chambre Syndicale de la Haute
Couture to become a member and showed his first Haute Couture collection in
Paris, 2003.
The amazing wedding dress shown in Saab’s collection was a
nod to his Anniversary of 25 years with wife, Claudine Saab this July 4th.
She wore a similar Saab creation on the special day, and perhaps was his
inspiration for this collection.
The speakers
blasted out ‘Come as you are’ by Nirvana however there wasn’t a predominant grunge
theme throughout the show. There were 58 looks throughout his Fall Couture
collection.
He used mainly striking gold tones; Saab stated he
was inspired by his earlier work in the 90’s. The gold was a common theme
throughout his collection which was similar to his Couture collection in spring,
but this time Saab would introduce deep green, black, burgundy, and sparkling
jewel tones. His collection was extravagant, using embellishments, embroidery, dark
floral patterns, and mink trim at the shoulders of a few of the dresses. Shapes
of the dresses ranged from tall and slender to beautifully full dresses, he
also incorporated jumpsuits and a caftan. There was a beautiful burgundy lace
jumpsuit with a cape which he did in the classic gold too. I always
anticipate Elie Saabs Couture collections they’re always so beautiful and mesmerizing,
I love the embroidered delicate fabrics which he uses, mixed with multiple layers
and in this collection Mink fur. The women in his designs always look so
powerful yet delicate. I’m also obsessed with the fur bags in the pastel blue
and pink!
